Things to Do in San Francisco 4th of July 2016 Weekend

One of the best times to visit the city is during the 4th of July. There are lots of fun and festive activities during this holiday. If you’re looking for things to do in San Francisco on Independence Day weekend, you should check this list.

Get a great view of the fireworks show

Watching the fireworks is a favorite activity during 4th of July. San Francisco will be setting off fireworks from two locations this year: 1) from the foot of the Municipal Pier and 2) from the barges north of Pier 39. The fireworks display starts shortly before 9:30pm (or once it’s dark enough to start) and lasts around 30 minutes.

There are a number of other cities planning large fireworks displays and festivals in the Bay Area. These includes:- Aquatic Park

– Coit Tower
– Angel Island

4th of July with The Golden Gate Park Band

The Golden Gate Park Band, under the direction of Michael L. Wirgler, presents the 134th season in Golden Gate Park’s music concourse. The Golden Gate Park Band plays free Sunday concerts all summer long, but the band always takes the time to commemorate our country’s birthday with a special show entitled The American Landscape featuring patriotic and American music.

4th of July Celebration at PIER 39

Witness the skies sparkle red, white and blue as PIER 39 celebrates Independence Day with fun for the whole family! Check out special exhibits west of the PIER 39 Entrance Plaza from 11am-5pm before rocking out to the Bay Area’s favorite cover band Tainted Love – The Best of the 80s Live from 5-8pm in the PIER 39 Entrance Plaza.

At 9:30pm, look to the sky for The City & County of San Francisco’s spectacular fireworks display. Grab your stars and stripes and take advantage of PIER 39’s amazing 180-degree Bay views this 4th of July! For more information visit www.pier39.com.

Live Music at Aquatic Park

In addition to all the fun at Pier 39, the City and County of San Francisco is also hosting live music at Aquatic Park. This event starts at 6pm with the Prince tribute band, The Purple Ones. It continues at 7:45pm with the Cheeseballs, A Bay Area Dance Party Band.

After the live music, you will be treated to the fireworks display at 9:30pm. Admission is free.
